File Storage

College students can accumulate substantial amounts of data from their courses, including photos, images, documents and projects, datasets, and downloaded course material.  University agreements with Google, Box*, and now (2020) DropBox provide each student with unlimited storage on Google and Box and 5Tb of storage on DropBox.  The College also provides shared storage for courses who need additional space or have particular collaboration needs.  External storage drives are another inexpensive way to store your data. Drives can be purchased from big box stores, via the web, or at the UM Computing Showcase. Depending on the drive size, speed, and manufacturer, sizable external drives can typically be purchased for less than $100.00.  *[NOTE: The Box agreement will end December 2021 -- files stored on Box will need to be removed by then]

U-M Box

Every University student is provided with unlimited storage on Box.com, a University service called U-M Box. In addition to its accessibility wherever a web browser is available, M+Box provides an easy way to share files, to preview a variety of file types through a web browser, and, with Box Sync, allows changes to local files to automatically update those files on Box, providing both a sharing and a back-up solution.  Box also offers Box Drive, which allows accessing Box folder and files as though they were on a local network volume.  For both Mac and WIndows users this means they can be directly opened, worked on, and saved by applications installed on the local machine.

U-M Dropbox

U-M Dropbox is available with 5 TB of storage for individual accounts for all active faculty, staff, students, and sponsored affiliates at the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Flint, and Michigan Medicine campuses

U-M Google

The University's U-M Google agreement provides each student with Google e-mail, calendaring, and Google's Drive applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites...).  Google provides unlimited storage on Drive.  Drive also offers, when using Google Docs, a platform for real-time collaborative editing and commenting, features now widely used in meetings and group work.  The installable Google Drive File Stream allows accessing your G Suite Google files as though they were on a local network volume.  For both Mac and WIndows users this means they can be directly opened, worked on, and saved by applications installed on the local machine

College course storage

The College provides storage for courses where there are large amounts of data to be shared or particular collaborative needs, such as Revit collaborative modeling. Availability will be established by the course instructor
