This course is an introduction to Virtual Reality as a tool for design. It will begin with an overview of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, along with related technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). The focus of the course will be to provide students with concrete skills to create realtime virtual experiences. The course will be structured around weekly software tutorials. Students will learn the basics of video game engine software and how to import assets from modeling and image editing software. Skills learned include: creating virtual spaces, environmental effects (light, wind, sound), materials, and movement of people and objects. Students will leave the course with a realtime environment that can be experienced with VR technology. Some experience with 3D modeling and image editing is required.
