Thün appointed Associate Dean for Research

Dean Ponce de Leon has appointed Geoffrey Thün, Associate Professor of Architecture, Associate Dean of Research for Taubman College.

Thün’s research ranges from the micro-material scale of building envelopes to the macro-urban scale of the region. His scholarship is inherently multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative with his practice, other academic researchers, and industry partners. His expertise has led to a series of significant research collaborations across campus in the area of sustainability and his participation on several campus-wide initiatives.

According to Dean Ponce de Leon, “Geoff’s interdisciplinary research, as well as the broad range of his work, encompassing regional issues as well as the scale of building, make him particularly well suited to serve as Associate Dean of Research for Taubman College and to work with faculty in both the Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning Programs.”

With an impressive commitment to pursue funded research, Thün has received funding from the US Department of Transportation, US Department of Energy, Alcoa Foundation, Mott Foundation, Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada, Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute, Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Power Authority, MITACS, U-M Wireless Integrated Microsystems ERC, and the U-M Office of Research, to name a few. Thün’s research and creative practice has also been disseminated widely among some of the most prestigious publications in the field such as the International Journal of Architecture and Design, the International Journal of Architectural Computing, the Journal of the International Society of the Arts, Sciences and Technology, the Journal of Architectural Education, and Spaces and Flows: An International Journal of Urban and ExtraUrban Studies.
