Schmidt and Skrisson present ‘Mike Teavee’ at DLECTRICITY

D Met Design, composed of Taubman College Lecturers Joel Schmidt and Liz Skrisson, has been selected to feature in this year’s DLECTRICITY festival with their project, “Mike Teavee: Am I Coming in Clear?” A follow-up to their “Frontier Town” project from last year’s event, “Mike Teavee” references the television obsessed youngster who jumps at the chance to be transported inside his favorite pastime in the beloved 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Their interactive, family-friendly project will be at the corner of Woodward and Warren on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27, from 7 pm to midnight. Featuring a giant television set, Mike Teavee will transport visitors to an “otherworldly” stage that “distorts perspective and scale.” Actors/visitors inside the TV will encounter obstacles, props, and secret entrances. Viewers can complete the show from outside the set by transmitting the performances via social media.

This is the second year that D MET Design of Midtown Detroit has participated in the bi-annual DLECTRICITY festival. DLECTRICITY is free and open to the public. Visit the DLECTRICITY website for more details on the event.
