Taubman College Quarcoopome Awarded Honorable Mention In Blank Space Fairy Tales Competition
Taubman College 3G thesis student Rubin Quarcoopome was awarded an honorable mention for his narrative submission to the Blank Space Fairy Tales competition. 2016 marks the third annual Fairy Tales competition, and over 1,500 narratives were submitted from 67 countries around the world. Winners were chosen by an interdisciplinary jury that included: Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director of the Serpentine Galleries; Elizabeth Diller, Founding Partner at Diller Scofidio + Renfro; and Aaron Betsky, Dean of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, among many other distinguished judges.
The Fairy Tales competition, one of the largest ideas competition in the architecture industry, invites designers to craft an original story and four accompanying visuals. Quarcoopome’s story, titled Honey Street, is set in Detroit’s Highland Park and discusses the idea of bees repurposing buildings. The narrative began under the guidance of Neal Robinson’s Fall 2014 Networks Studio.
Blank Space is an online platform for architecture including publications, competitions, and projects. Blank Space attracts competitors from universities, brand-name studios, and the field of academia. The winning entries of the Fairy Tales competition, including Quarcoopome’s Honey Street, will be featured in the third volume of Fairy Tales: When Architecture Tells a Story.
