Pankaj Duggal

Describe the work you do. What are some of your recent and current projects that excite you? What inspires you about the future of your chosen field?
Over the 30-years in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry my career took me on a diverse career path which culminated in various management positions at mid and large sized companies. I started out as an Architect and Planner and grew into a seasoned executive with leadership and management experience in driving business growth, operational performance, and organizational excellence across architecture, engineering, consulting, and infrastructure businesses throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Proven track record of leading complex multidisciplinary organizations, strengthening financial performance, expanding strategic client relationships, integrating acquisitions, and developing high-performing leadership teams within publicly traded, privately held and private equity-backed companies.

I am involved in a variety of projects for clients in various markets from defense to advanced manufacturing to data centers to aviation and transit to education and civic projects. I am excited about technically complex, high-performance projects that require multi-disciplinary approaches working closely with our construction partners to deliver the projects.

There is so much opportunity for us to work with our clients and communities to solve critical built environment challenges while leveraging technology to deliver high-performance solutions. This inspires me every day!

Why did you choose Taubman College for your education?
Taubman offered me the opportunity and flexibility to combine my architecture education with planning along with a real estate focus at the Business School. It gave me a unique insight into the multi-disciplinary approaches required to be successful in our field and paved the way for where I am today.

How did Taubman College prepare you for your career? What experiences beyond the classroom (internships, research assistantships, teaching opportunities, or other external experiences) provided additional value?
Building upon what I mentioned in the earlier section I had the opportunity to engage on multiple internships in planning and architecture fields. In addition, my teaching assistant opportunity gave me a tremendous grounding in both the programs. I also had the opportunity to work part time at the University’s Facilities Planning and Design Department which gave me excellent exposure to the campus and the ongoing projects.

How has being part of the alumni community impacted you, personally and professionally?
I don’t even know where to start… there is a pride, passion, commitment and energy that comes with being a U-M Alumnus… it’s hard to explain but you know what I mean. This has been a part of my personal and professional life since I graduated from Taubman. The connections you make in the industry and the doors that open because of the Michigan connection is just priceless. Most the A&E firms have Taubman or Michigan alumni in leadership roles which has helped professionally and personally to expand my network.

What did you like best about attending Taubman College?
The culture at the College and the high caliber of professors the College / University attracts.

What advice or important lesson would you share with someone considering Taubman College?
I would share that they can count on a well-rounded high caliber education and experience at Taubman.
