In many ways, cities have been leading society’s efforts to address the challenges of climate mitigation and adaptation. In this course, students will learn about the critical dimensions of different climate impacts, including extreme heat, flooding, drought, sea level rise, and wildfire, and how they complicate the provision of city services. We will explore some of the on-line tools to think critically about the physical impacts and how to bring marginalized communities to the forefront of our planning efforts. Finally, we will evaluate innovative approaches used in cities in low, medium, and high-resource settings.
