In this class, we will explore the systems in our urban places that provide drinking water, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, electricity (overview of the grid plus solar, wind, and other emerging energy sources), internet access, and surface mobility (roads, parking, sidewalks, bikeways). We will look at the basic components of each system and then examine how institutions (broadly defined to include private, public, and non-profit), markets, and technology influence each system’s urban form, efficiency, and equity of access. This class will be collaboratively taught by Elisa Ngan and Larissa Larsen.
