October 3, 2008 at 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

2008 Taubman College Distinguished Alumnus Jorge Pérez, M.U.P.’76 will present some of his most successful projects and share insights about the challenges and opportunities of real estate development in today’s market.

Taubman College is proud to honor international developer Jorge Pérez, M.U.P.’76, founder, chairman, and CEO of The Related Group, as this year’s distinguished alumnus. Jorge has been called one of the top 25 most influential Hispanics in the United States. He has been the recipient of countless awards, including a 2007 National Building Museum Honor Award that he accepted on behalf of The Related Group, and the Icon in Real Estate Award of Excellence at MIPIM in Cannes, France—the only American developer ever to have been so honored. In 2006, he received the Urban Land Institute Lifetime Achievement Award, Miami Citizen of the Year, and Hispanic Role Model of the year by the Miami Dade County’s Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board. His civic involvement includes his role as advisor to former President Clinton, as well as local and regional service on the Miami Housing Commission, the Governor’s Advisory Board on Affordable Housing, the Dade County Homeless Trust, the board of the Miami Art Museum, Advisory Board of the Dade County Cultural Alliance, the University of Miami School of Architecture Visiting Committee, and the University of Miami Board of Trustees. Jorge’s career as a real estate developer has been about making places and communities that are livable, beautiful, and sustainable—from his first projects building affordable housing in Miami’s Little Havana to the high profile urban developments that have helped turn downtown Miami into a 24/7 town.

Taubman College is proud of Jorge’s position at the forefront of South Florida’s urban evolution; his vision/promotion of architecture and design excellence in new development; his commitment to transformative urban projects; and his role as a leader in the creation and management of affordable housing across the nation.
