Lunch UP:

Tracking Police Homicide in the U.S.

Presenter: Frank Romo

This presentation highlights current work with the Million Hoodies Movement for Justice. This research is part of a long-term data analysis project entitled “Million Hoodies Mapping Project.” The project is aimed at performing nationwide and neighborhood level analysis on issues that have disproportionately affected brown and black communities. I use large data sets, social media and publicly available data to cross-reference cases of police violence and misconduct and will showcase some web visualization tools I have created to track police violence across the nation during the 2015 calendar year.

These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship. If you have research you would like to present, or a provocative article you would like to discuss, please speak with Larissa Larsen, David Weinreich, or Carla Kayanan.
