January 15, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Please join fellow Master of Urban Planning students and alumni for a new brown bag lunch program brought to you by Urban Planning Career Services.

This program will feature Andrea Brown, AICP, Executive Director of the Michigan Assocation of Planning. This will be an invaluable and unique opportunity to spend quality face-to-face time with a prominent leader within the planning community. If forming relationships with planning professionals in a small, informal gathering would be beneficial to you, then don’t miss this program.

Andrea Brown serves as the Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Planning (MAP), the Michigan chapter of the American Planning Association. MAP is one of the largest of APA’s chapters with nearly 5,000 members and serves professional community planners and elected and appointed land use decision makers like planning commissions and zoning boards. MAP provides information, education and advocacy that support quality community planning.

Ms. Brown is responsible for the development of MAP’s land use and planning policy; for advancing MAP’s legislative agenda in Lansing; and for developing relationships and partnerships, forming coalitions, and working closely with other land use leaders, state agencies, and non-profits. Brown is the chief fundraiser for MAP and has successfully secured funding to advance MAP initiatives. Before being appointed as executive director, Ms. Brown served as MAP’s Information Director for 4 years.

Prior to joining MAP in 2000, Ms. Brown had accrued over a dozen years of experience as a professional community planner, working in both the public and private sectors. She received awards for two comprehensive plans for which she was project manager during her tenure with the City of Ann Arbor. Ms. Brown is a certified planner, a registered lobbyist. She holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in urban planning from Eastern Michigan University.
