Workshop – Grasshopper 2: 3D Investigations and Meshes

September 28, 2017 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Grasshopper 2: 3D Investigations and Meshes

Instructor: Dan Tish

THERE WILL BE 22 COMPUTERS AVAILABLE TO USE WITH SEATING FOR 40; IF POSSIBLE PLEASE BRING A LAPTOP WITH RHINO AND GRASSHOPPER TO ASSURE PARTICIPATION

This workshop will assume basic knowledge of Grasshopper either through the completion of the GH1 workshop or prior experience. The investigations will be focused on 3D objects in Grasshopper. Students will construct 3D BRep objects, panelize (or subdivide) the geometry, and differentially apply various formal manipulations associated with culling and grouping parts of the whole geometry. Mesh geometries will also be explored, culminating in the introduction to Kangaroo, a physics simulation engine plug-in, to investigate “active” models to develop naturally relaxed geometries and minimal surfaces as well as more advanced techniques of surficial growth algorithms.
