Board of Regents Approves Reappointment of Ponce de Leon as Taubman College Dean
Taubman College congratulates Dean Ponce de Leon on her reappointment as Dean. The following statement was sent by Phil Hanlon, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Arthur F. Thurnau and D.J. Lewis Professor of Mathematics:
“President Coleman and I are pleased to announce that the Board of Regents has approved the reappointment of Monica Ponce de Leon as Dean of the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning for a second five-year term. Her reappointment follows the conclusion of an extensive review process.
The review highlighted that during Monica Ponce de Leon’s tenure as dean the profile and visibility of the Taubman College has significantly improved. Her curricular initiatives have reinvigorated learning and have introduced a new energy to the college. She has put in place innovative incentives for interdisciplinary research and creative practice as a way to address complex environmental, economic and societal challenges.
Dean Ponce de Leon is a strong advocate for the highest standards in architecture and urban planning education. She demonstrated her commitment to interdisciplinarity by advocating the development of new pedagogies that work across disciplines. She has also brought an understanding of the profound impact of emerging technology on architecture and planning to encourage new teaching methods in an innovative and exciting environment. With the integration of these leading-edge pedagogies, the college is contributing to new directions in architecture and planning education.
The reappointment review process presented us with a valuable opportunity to learn more about the Taubman College and its progress under Dean Ponce de Leon’s leadership.
