Knoblauch Speaking at International Colloquium on Knowledge Networks and Health Innovation in the Americas

Assistant Professor of Architecture Joy Knoblauch will speak at the upcoming International Colloquium on “Knowledge Networks and Health Innovation in the (North and South) Americas” on Wednesday and Thursday, April 13-14, 2016 at the University of Michigan Detroit Conference Center.

The event is organized by Steven Palmer, Canada Research Chair in the History of International Health, University of Windsor and Co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Brazil Initiative, University of Michigan (Director: Alexandra Minna Stern). Topics range from Inter-American and Anti-American Networks to Reproductive Rights and from Animal Health to Mapping Digital Networks of Health in the Americas.

Knoblauch will speak in response to “Miracles in Modern Medicine” a 19 minute film produced for the Montreal Expo in 1967, directed by Robert Cordier, with cinematography by John Palmer. Kirsten Ostherr, author of “Medical Visions: Producing the Patient through Film, Television and Imaging Technologies” (Oxford, 2012) and Steven Palmer will also discuss the film. Dr. Palmer explains that the graphic medical film was such a shock for viewers at the 1967 Montreal World Exhibition (Expo ’67) that a reported 200 people a day fainted while watching it. The conference is free and open to the public.
