Taubman College STULTS PUBLISHES CLIMATE ADAPTATION RESEARCH IN NATURE CLIMATE CHANGE
Missy Stults, doctoral student in urban planning and natural resources and the environment, published research examining variations in the content and quality of adaptation planning around the United States in Nature Climate Change, a monthly online journal publishing original climate change research. The article, “Numerous strategies but limited implementation guidance in US local adaptation plans,” was co-authored with Sierra Woodruff, a doctoral candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In a review of plans from 44 cities, Stults and her colleague found that cities are identifying a wide array of opportunities to make an impact; however, differences in plan content (including implementation details, the prioritization of strategies, and the engagement of a variety of stakeholders) created wide varieties in the quality and potential effectiveness of the plans. Plans authored by planning departments and including city officials tended to have higher quality and specificity.
