Sirota Invited to Speak at the Second Annual Detroit City of Design Summit

Assistant Professor Anya Sirota, co-founder of design practice akoaki will be speaking at the second annual Detroit City of Design Summit on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The summit will address several themes including “Preserving and Uplifting Local Culture” which will be led by Sirota and her akoaki co-founder, Jean Louis Farges. Other events and workshops will take place on September 9 – 14, 2017.

As part of the summit, Sirota and Farges are also the curators of “Crop Up,” an exhibition opening, party, and experimental environment exploring art, agriculture, and the cultivation of the public commons in Detroit’s epic North End on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Hosted by the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm and curated by Akoaki, the event features exceptional Detroit artists, performers, designers, chefs, including: Dr. Kno, Emily Rogers, Andrew Black, Ute Petit, Nick George, Maxel Hardy, and others.

The Detroit City of Design Summit explores the unique opportunity for Detroit as the first and only UNESCO City of Design in the United States. It is a convening of design partners and professionals from Detroit and beyond to celebrate the past, present, and future potential for design to drive equitable and sustainable growth in Detroit. The summit is presented by Lear Corporation and sponsored by Bluewater Tech, dPOP, College for Creative Studies, and media sponsor Azure Magazine.
