Taubman College Associate Professor Matias del Campo and Assistant Professor of Practice Sandra Manninger currently are displaying work at the Vienna Biennale for Change 2019. The Vienna Biennale combines art, design, and architecture to engage issues involving technology, economy, creativity, and the digital revolution. This interdisciplinary program is a collaboration between MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Kunsthalle Wien, the Architekturzentrum Wien, the Vienna Business Agency, and the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.
The theme of the Vienna Biennale is Brave New Virtues: Shaping Our Digital World. Del Campo and Manninger are displaying “Robot Garden,” which they designed for Michigan Robotics, and an augmented reality installation titled “Augmentations of the Real.” “Robot Garden” is a testing ground for mobile robots, using both natural and man-made materials to suggest an intentional artificiality. “Augmentations of the Real,” which the duo previously exhibited at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, is an investigation of the challenges and opportunities posed by augmented reality for architecture.
