Why did you choose Taubman College as the right program for you?
I have a very eclectic set of interests, and when I was looking for higher education opportunities, I wanted to be in an environment that fostered never-ending curiosity and continuous creativity. With the ongoing student and faculty projects at Taubman, in the FABLab, and unique electives, I can create my own tailored educational experience and pursue my budding interests.

What is special or excites you about the Taubman community?
Everyone in the Taubman Community, from the faculty to the students, is unique in their own way. Each of us have different perspectives, personalities, interests, and backgrounds. The culmination of diversity and view points, bonded by our innate fascination of urban spaces, creates a space where there is never a dull conversation or project.

If applicable, tell us about studio culture – what is inspiring or innovative or unique?
If I could describe the studio culture in two words, they would be: collaborative and flexible. The space provides an atmosphere where we can all grind out our projects, have conversations, and relax after pinup. The culture also cultivates an environment where students can proudly show their in-progress and final works, enabling a space of self-improvement and sportsmanship.

Describe your experience with faculty and professional staff during your time at Taubman?
The faculty and professional staff here at Taubman are great! Their insight and expertise on current topics and interests make conversations with them engaging and impactful. As well, they are very approachable and accommodating which has made their mentorship truly invaluable.

How has Taubman’s career and professional development support prepared you for a successful career in your chosen field?
One of my biggest concerns when starting in the new Urban Technology degree program was future career prospects. Urban Technology is a niche within a niche, and with it being brand new, I had trouble figuring out how to start my career journey. However, the career and professional development support at Taubman helped me navigate this process by teaching me how to market myself with my new degree, utilize my resources such as the Taubman College Career Network, and apply the skills I have been learning in my studio classes in a professional environment.

What benefits have you experienced being part of the University of Michigan?
I never realized how expansive UMich’s alumni network was until I started utilizing it. It seemed like there was always someone I could reach out to and network with in the variety of fields that I was interested in.

What do you like most about being part of the Ann Arbor community?
The Ann Arbor community has a lot of character due to the fact that it prioritizes inclusivity and diversity. Each day, there is something new to experience. I enjoy being able to explore new cultures through the collection of restaurants, engage in community events where the citizens are passionate, and being able to enjoy the numerous amenities Ann Arbor has to offer with my friends.

What advice would you give prospective students as they consider Taubman College?
Explore your surroundings! If you see a project that looks interesting, engage in a conversation about what they are working on. Curiosity ignites the ideation process, and learning from others is the catalyst. Don’t worry about asking; we are all designers, and we love talking about our work.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on focusing on urban strategy and designing/creating tools that act as an extension of the design process to facilitate change. With AEC tools infused with current technological advancements, there is no limit to what we can create and who we can help.

Additional advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective students?
If you have an idea, make a plan and create it. Both Taubman and UMich have the resources for you – research, creation, implementation, and mentorship – and all you have to do is start.
