Inclusive Neighborhood Development

It is understood that healthy communities need neighborhoods that are diverse, affordable, mixed use and sustainable. But even amid calls for more housing to ad-dress the affordability crisis, contemporary modes of development are incapable of creating the communities we need. This course will look at the design tactics, development practices, and policy strategies that can support more inclusive, just, and resilient neighborhoods. No prior coursework is required, but this course will make an excellent companion to the Collectives studio, as well as serve as an extension of Arch 517/UP 555 The Architect/Planner as Developer. Students in planning, urban design, and other disciplines are encouraged to take this course.
