Wallenberg Lecture Series – Sam Rolfes

February 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm

Flirting the boundaries of virtuality and reality, Sam Rolfes gives a whole new meaning to virtual reality. His art: although esoteric in theory is hauntingly familiar in actuality. Rolfes’ 3D animations are consecrated in digital havens, roaming the warped landscapes and wormhole worlds of his creation. With a style so inventive, it’s no surprise Rolfes’ repertoire boasts the likes of Lady Gaga, Danny Elfman and booming brands: Nike and Adult Swim. Come and join Leah Wulfman and the Wallenberg Studio in welcoming Sam Rolfes to Taubman College on Friday, February 17 at 1PM in the Commons.
BIO: Sam Rolfes is a pioneering virtual performer, artist, and co-director of the realtime digital performance and image studio Team Rolfes with his brother Andy Rolfes, which specializes in figurative animation, VR puppetry and mixed-reality collage. Rolfes’ practice expresses itself across multiple formats including livestream improvisational comedy, live motion-capture animation on large festival stages and underground rave bunkers, print design for fashion collections, album covers, and music videos for collaborators including Lady Gaga, Danny Elfman, Danny L Harle, Nike, Netflix, Adult Swim, and music festivals across the world.
