M.U.D. Program Returns to Turkey for Third Consecutive Year

The M.U.D. program’s 2009 fall term intermediate studio will execute The Black Sea Transect Project, a study of the Rize, Turkey metropolitan area extending from the city’s downtown waterfront to surrounding mountains. This is the third M.U.D. studio project in Turkey in three years. In August, students and Professors Roy Strickland and Kit McCullough will fly to Turkey for two weeks of site visits and meetings with national and regional planners, government officials, and academics. Among the design themes to be explored are metropolitan and regional design, sustainable design, transportation design, urban and rural conservation, and eco-tourism.  Providing a model for international urban-design practice, the studio will communicate with Turkish colleagues using digital technology and video-conferencing. See Global City, Turkey for an example of earlier M.U.D. work in Turkey.
