The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Upjohn Research Initiative has awarded $100,000 to four research projects that will advance architectural design and practice. Assistant Professors Tsz Yan Ng and Wes McGee have been selected for their proposal “Tilt Print Lift – 3D Printing for Precast Assemblies.”
This research will develop 3D concrete printing technologies and prototypical system to produce prefabricated concrete panels for complex wall assemblies. The project will develop techniques for detailing and panel connections that are specific to 3D printing technology, while focusing also on manufacturing processes, construction logistics, and performance criteria.
More information about “Tilt Print Lift” and the other selected projects can be found here.
