Associate Professor Maria Arquero De Alarcon is on the steering committee of the 2018 Water @ Michigan Conference: Embracing the Values of Water, to be held on May 2 at Palmer Commons. Sponsored by the University of Michigan Water Center and the School for Environment and Sustainability, the conference aims to advance new ideas and forge new collaborations. At the conference, University of Michigan researchers, as well as practitioners, decision-makers and funders from the region, will spend a day exploring new ideas and future directions for collaborations to address diverse water issues and challenges.
This year’s theme, “Embracing the Values of Water,” seeks to explore the ways society values water (socially, economically, spiritually, environmentally) and how those values might be better recognized, sustained, and harnessed for sustainable water management. A Water @ Michigan seed-grant fund has been created specifically to move forward collaborations between researchers and practitioners. Researcher-practitioner teams will share insights into successful partnerships on three sub-themes: Water Quality and Inequality; From Rust to Blue; Citizenship and Ethics. Faculty researchers are encouraged to submit lightning talk (5-minute presentation) proposals that highlight their ideas for future research in one of these three sub-themes.
