Dean Massey Discusses Changing Public Spaces on Michigan Radio’s “Stateside”
Taubman College Dean Jonathan Massey recently appeared on Michigan Radio’s “Stateside” program to share his thoughts on how outdoor public spaces like social districts and parklets are part of cities’ broader reimagining of spaces and mobility. He also talked about how access to parks and outdoor public spaces are ripe for expansion to neighborhoods at all socioeconomic levels — and how prototyping, or “tactical urbanism,” helps urban planners, urban designers, and architects understand a community’s needs.
He called the pandemic a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to catalyze, accelerate, and consolidate some lines of thinking and practice that have emerged … especially over the past decade.”
