Why did you choose Taubman College as the right program for you?
For me, Taubman offered the right blend of academic rigor, curricular flexibility, and location: being so close to Detroit, in particular, was enticing because the issues with its autocentric planning and suburban sprawl are found in so many other cities across the country. Finding solutions to city planning issues here could help build a blueprint to resolve planning issues elsewhere.
What is special or excites you about the Taubman community?
Everyone is very passionate about urban planning. You can tell everyone really cares about the issues in contemporary urbanism and wants to use their work to make a positive impact. It’s very inspiring!
Describe your experience with faculty and professional staff during your time at Taubman?
Faculty at Taubman are extremely dedicated and welcoming. I’ve found it very easy to get in contact with them about any problems I am having, and they are more than willing to help work with you to get you on firmer ground.
How has Taubman’s career and professional development support prepared you for a successful career in your chosen field?
I was able to put so many of the urban planning skills I learned at Taubman to work this past summer while interning for the City of Detroit!
What benefits have you experienced being part of the University of Michigan?
If you wear Michigan gear, even while traveling abroad, you will immediately become aware of just how big the alumni network is. Be prepared to have people shout ‘Go Blue!’ at you on the street with little warning.
What do you like most about being part of the Ann Arbor community?
Ann Arbor is a place that nurtures the types of small businesses that give a community a real sense of place.
What advice would you give prospective students as they consider Taubman College?
Spend some time exploring course offerings both in and out of Taubman and build a plan to make the most of this opportunity. Have a strong idea of what you want to specialize in and the courses that will help you build expertise in that field so you can put the best foot forward after graduation.
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to stay local, but I am also exploring opportunities on the East Coast. However, before I settle into a new role, I would love to travel to celebrate finishing my studies here.
