Taubman College Pathways Program
The Taubman College Pathways program seeks to create avenues to diversify the Taubman College community and the fields of architecture and urban planning. Geared toward those exploring graduate education, the program provides an opportunity for career exploration and learning more about Taubman College’s academic offerings in an intimate setting. Our goal is to expand the diversity of our college and disciplines in as many ways as possible, including but not limited to socioeconomic status, educational experiences, race/ethnicity, etc. This is one of the multiple pathways and mentoring programs Taubman College offers at every stage, from high school through entry into the profession and beyond.
Who should participate in the Taubman College Pathways program?
Current non-University of Michigan Ann Arbor undergraduate students and college graduates who identify as first-generation or have experienced low socioeconomic status (at any point in their life–examples include but are not limited to receiving free or reduced lunch, financial aid, SNAP or housing benefits–see application for more details) are eligible to apply. DACAmented/Undocumented applicants are also eligible. We are particularly interested in students who want to explore attending Taubman College as graduate students.
What happens during the Pathways Program?
During the Pathways Program, participants will have an opportunity to learn about Taubman College and the fields of architecture and urban planning. They will also have an opportunity to learn how students engage with communities as part of their Taubman education. Participants will virtually attend classes, meet professors, current students, and student organizations, as well as student support staff, including Admissions; Student Affairs; Career and Professional Development; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and others. In addition, participants will be matched with a current student mentor who will guide them and support them throughout the program.
Regarding time commitment, participants attend 2-3 virtual engagement sessions, a one-week campus visit in January, and at least 3 mentorship meetings.
When is the Pathways Program?
The TC Pathways Program will have virtual engagement sessions in the Fall and a one-week visit to the Taubman campus in January 2025 (exact dates TBD).
What are the benefits* of participating in Taubman College Pathways?
During the program, participants:
- Learn more about graduate programs and the fields of architecture, urban planning, and urban design
- Receive resume support
- Explore networking and professional development opportunities
- Are paired with current student mentors
- Develop lasting connections with fellow participants and Taubman College affiliates
After the program concludes, participants have access to:
- Application assistance for Taubman College academic programs
- Guidance throughout the financial aid and scholarship application process at Taubman College
- Support in applying to Rackham’s Summer Research Opportunity Program

The program is completely free to participants.
How do I apply?
The application for the 2024-2025 Pathways Program is now closed. The 2025-2026 application is expected to open late Summer 2025/early Fall 2025.
