The shop is a 6,000 square foot facility located on the first floor, in the southwest wing of the Art + Architecture Building. A fully equipped wood shop with several stations of the most common machines, the shop also has a good complement of plastics and metal working equipment and two CAD–driven laser cutters for wood, paper, and plastics. The shop staff of professional model makers oversees and guides all work in the shop, and they conduct annual training programs for students. Shop hours extend into the evenings and part of the weekend for the convenience of students.

- Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- Sunday: Closed

The Art and Architecture Shop is open to Taubman College and School of Art and Design students who have taken the shop orientation.
The Art and Architecture Building has a Lasercamm system. These two CAD–driven laser cutters turn complicated drawings into laser cut parts. Similar to a pen plotter, the system uses a laser beam to cut and scribe a variety of sheet materials such as wood, paper, and plastics into intricate patterns.
