This seminar is an introduction to the study of collective memory. This introduction will be conducted via an exploration of three major technologies of collective memory – heritage, monuments, and museums – with case studies of each drawn from the post-Yugoslav successor states. The seminar aims at giving students a basic familiarity with some of the key contemporary public issues and scholarly debates related to collective memory, as well as an ability to pursue further thinking about and work on collective memory issues.
