This course provides a hands-on introduction to the theory and practice of urban scenario planning. This planning method integrates creativity and analysis to construct multiple possible futures for urban places, with the aim of improving decisions by challenging assumptions and encouraging learning. The course combines seminar discussions of key readings and cases with a series of hands-on assignments to construct urban scenarios for sites in Southeast Michigan. Special emphasis is placed on the range of computer models used by professionals, and how diverse stakeholders can be engaged in the scenario planning process.
