Anatomy of the City — This course explores the complex questions that cities must answer regarding the physical environment: how do people move about? Where does energy come from and how is it utilized? How does the city relate to nature (or not)? How does communication happen? And what are the trade-offs of each decision? These questions are explored through case studies that illuminate the purpose, internal logics, and tensions of different urban systems. This course is offered only during the Spring semester and includes overnight field trips to regional cities to learn about contemporary issues from diverse stakeholders.
