Scales of Practice presents paradigms for redevelopment and a range of perspectives on rebuilding across the American landscape at three scales: the town, city and region. Rebuilding the American City highlights urban design and planning projects that have been catalysts for their downtowns and were implemented despite social, economic and environmental challenges. In the scholarship of urbanism, towns are overlooked and understudied. Rebuilding the American Town highlights what smaller municipalities are doing to capitalize on their intrinsic assets and remain vibrant. Rebuilding the American Region probes strategies to address climate change, energy production and our culture’s reliance on the automobile.
