Taubman College Turpin presents his lecture “Aberrant Architecture: Typologies of Practice” at the National Gallery of Art in Lithuania
Architecture Lecturer and 2011-2012 Walter B. Sanders Research Fellow Etienne Turpin will present his lecture “Aberrant Architecture: Typologies of Practice” at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius, Lithuania, November 4, 2011. The presentation is part of the lecture series, “The City. Breakpoints,” which looks at the city as “one of the most controversial structures of civilization, an integral part of modern culture, often personalized, adored and demonized.”
Turpin and his co-presenter, Adam Bobbette, Associate Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, are founders and contributing editors of the not-for-profit journal Scapegoat: Architecture, Landscape, Political Economy, designed to create a context for research and development regarding design practice, historical investigation, and theoretical inquiry.
Drawing inspiration from figures as diverse as Auguste Blanqui and Aldo Rossi, Turpin and Bobbette ask: how can typology embolden design practices today? Through looking to recent design projects published in Scapegoat: Architecture, Landscape, Political Economy, Turpin and Bobbette argue for a reappraisal of practice within the design disciplines.
