Kayim premieres documentary at Prague Architecture Week

E. Seda Kayim, 1st year Architecture Ph. D student specializing in History and Theory, recently premiered “Sancaklar Mosque”, a documentary about the eponymous Islam worship place built by Emre Arolat Architects. Kayim, who co-directed and co-edited the piece, spent two years producing the project as part of her multimedia production practice, SGMStudio. Her efforts were duly rewarded with a debut at the Prague Architecture Week, along with a display lasting from September 15th – October 12th.

The product of a 35 day shoot over 24 months, “Sancaklar Mosque” traces every detail of the construction process, from framework to finished product using seasonal changes as the framing structure for the narrative. The imagery and the attention to detail capture the organic transformation of the landscape as the vital part of the mosque’s birth as it truly was. SGMStudio narrates the experience, creating a unique architectural method of representation via film.

SGMStudio, founded by E. Seda Kayim, Erhun Ergodan, and Memduh Can Tanyeli, specializes in the creative multimedia work. Their previous works include work the introductory movie for the 1st Istanbul Design Biennial’s “Musibet” exhibition and a documentary short of Ipekyol’s textile factory.
