McEwen Provides Commentary on Sustainable Urban Design

Assistant Professor Mitch McEwen provided expert commentary for this week’s Tue/Night, a weekly online publication for women. The article, “The Rebirth and Reuse of Great Global Cities,” narrows in on one of the United Nations’ recently added goals for its upcoming Sustainable Development Summit, Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Being among the accomplished 15-18 percent of registered licensed female architects at the American Institute of Architects (AIA), McEwen was invited to discuss the role of architects and urban designers as instrumental agents in sustaining urban growth by engaging public life in the city and working with existing infrastructure. Her commentary joins that of fellow architects Tonja Adair, Julie Torres Moskovitz, and Claire Weisz. McEwen’s current projects include the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale pavilion exhibition with her firm A(n) Office, addressing civic buildings and cultural programming.
