Dean Jonathan Massey will speak at the 72nd annual Society of Architectural Historians International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island. The conference will include roundtable discussions and presentations about current research on the history of the built environment by architects, architectural historians, art historians, museum professionals, and preservationists. Massey is participating on the roundtable titled “Is Scholarship Plus Design the New Paradigm?” with Jana Cephas of Northeastern University, Pamela Karimi of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and Mark Pasnik of Wentworth Institute of Technology. They will discuss the relationship between scholarship and creative practice, whether and how architectural scholars should pursue design, and the implications of combining scholarship, design, knowledge, and experience.
