This project was created for Keep Growing Detroit (KGD) as a resource aligned with the organization’s mission to build a food-sovereign city. Connecting to Simpson et al.'s (2020) call for a system of care rooted in new imaginaries, this project aims not only to critique current systems but to highlight existing and possible alternatives. The report begins by examining the history of human-nature dualism and individualism in the United States and how they have been integrated into our urban fabrics. The report then outlines spatial analysis of Detroit, highlights global collective ideologies that diverge from dominant American practices, and concludes with policy ideas weaving each of these elements together. The report features numerous artworks and film photographs custom to this specific project.
