Over the last two years, New York City has received more than 150,000 migrants from the Texas border. This has overwhelmed city resources and space as migrants struggle to create a better life for themselves in one of the most expensive cities in the world. This project seeks to help address the migrant crisis by revitalizing a heavily, underutilized, parking lot into a public, neighborhood plaza with additional migrant resources. The design intends to utilize the manpower of the area’s new residents across a three phase construction process that transitions from a grassroots approach to a more institutionalized governmental approach.
