Describe the work you do. What are some of your recent and current projects that excite you? What inspires you about the future of your chosen field?
I am currently serving as the Principal-In-Charge on large, complicated healthcare projects across the Midwest Region including the University of Michigan Forbes Sports Medicine Institute, Trinity Livingston Hospital Expansion & Renovation, Henry Ford North Campus Planning and Enabling Projects, Miami Valley Behavioral Health Hospital, VA El Paso Ambulatory Care Center among others. My role includes winning new healthcare work for our team, serving in a leadership role on projects, and establishing and maintaining long term relationships with healthcare clients across the Midwest. I am passionate about designing buildings that improve outcomes, reduce stigma, and strengthen communities, and improve health outcomes.
Why did you choose Taubman College for your education?
I felt that Taubman College provided the most well-rounded education and provided the opportunity to stretch my creativity and problem-solving skills.
How did Taubman College prepare you for your career? What experiences beyond the classroom (internships, research assistantships, teaching opportunities, or other external experiences) provided additional value?
I had the opportunity to work in the Dean’s Office as a Work Study student. When architecture firms came to Taubman College to recruit students, I often took open spots or filled in for no-shows. This gave me the opportunity to hone my interview skills and have a better understanding of what employers were looking for. I also appreciated the resources provided by Taubman College including outside lecturers, portfolio reviews, and opportunities to connect to alumni. I also participated in the study abroad program at the Villa Corsi Salviati in Florence which was a life changing opportunity to connect with another culture and visit iconic architecture in person.
How has being part of the alumni community impacted you, personally and professionally?
Alumni connections assisted me with employment opportunities, mentorship, and growth and development throughout my career.
What did you like best about attending Taubman College?
The people. Because the class sizes are relatively small, and you spend a lot of time in the studio setting, you were able to get to know your fellow students and professors well. There was a lot of camaraderie among the students, and I am happy that I have maintained these relationships both personally and professionally.
What advice or important lesson would you share with someone considering Taubman College?
Make connections, challenge yourself, understand another culture, embrace every opportunity – all of these things will broaden your perspective and make you a better architect and leader.
