Course Brief:

This studio course explores drawing and modeling as a means of understanding the relationships between things: their size, qualities, effects, and relative positions. The human body as a measure of the environment is a key concept in the course. Considerable attention is given to the development of a disciplined approach to the construction of measured drawings as a means for developing and describing design concepts. Though intended primarily for students considering a design-related career, it is open to students from any discipline wishing to improve their visual literacy and spatial perception.

Learning objectives:

  • Introduction to measured drawing through digital drawing.
  • Development of an understanding of dimension and proportion.
  • Notation of time and movement through drawing.
  • Full-scale three dimensional modeling.
  • Introduction to Zund and laser cutters.
  • Introduction to long exposure photography.
