This studio module introduces students to techniques of design ideation, development, and representation through physical modeling and non-scalar material assemblies. The studio will produce constructs that exemplify and interrogate concepts of form, mass, and tectonics. Though intended primarily for students considering a design-related career, it is open to students from any discipline wishing to improve their design literacy.
Learning objectives:
- Introduction to tectonics, material assemblies, material behaviors, and materiality
- Introductory physical modeling
- Introductory digital modeling
- Introductory full-scale fabrication
- Learning about material constraints
Software requirements:
- Rhinoceros 3D
