The conventional image of the architect at work—the professional within a design firm or creative auteur—persists, even as alternative forms of practice are emerging in different corners of the field. This course provides students with one approach to positioning architectural expertise within an expanded constellation of players in the building industry. Borrowing a methodology that helps academics find applications for their research, this seminar will proceed as a kind of business incubator. Through evidence-based speculation, students will develop possible models for valuing design outside of practice.
