This course builds upon URP 801 (Research Design) and is a required course for doctoral students in Urban and Regional Planning. It is an interactive seminar that focuses on preparing doctoral students to write a dissertation proposal and on developing skills for building a career as a researcher. The course relies heavily on collaborative learning and participation of students, and it culminates with a formal presentation of the draft dissertation proposal to faculty and students. The course assumes that a student as gained skills through graduate-level training in the fundamentals of research design from URP 801, basic research methods, and fundamentals of writing.
