The URP PhD Pro-Seminar (Pro-Sem) aims to prepare Urban and Regional Planning PhD students to navigate URP program requirements and the academic “hidden curriculum”; offer URP PhD students opportunities to explore and prepare for both academic and non-academic career paths; ensure more equitable and consistent mentoring across the URP PhD program; leverage peer-mentoring and build community/strengthen the URP PhD student support network; and strengthen URP PhD student writing skills/habits and familiarity with the publishing process. The course is required for first year PhD students in the URP program. Other URP PhD students are also strongly encouraged to participate. With instructor permission, the course is open to other graduate students who intend to obtain a PhD and pursue a research career in urban planning.
