Laura Allen and Mark Smout focus on how the dynamic relationship between the natural and the manmade can be revealed to enhance the experience of the architectural landscape. Their work takes two routes – architectural competitions and conceptual design projects – and often focuses on resilience, long-term sustainability, and navigating the complexities of the natural environment.
The Binda Lecture Series honors Guido Binda (B.Arch.’31), who practiced architecture in Western Michigan for seven decades. Guido, with his wife Elizabeth, created this fund to provide for an exhibit program and annual lecture by visiting professionals.
