Wed 1

Art & Architecture Building TV Lab, Room 2106

2000 Bonisteel Blvd
Ann Arbor, MI 48109 United States

Join us for a special screening and conversation exploring textile designs, cultural practices and storytelling with Zainab Bello, 2026 Taubman Africa Alliance and U-M African Presidential Scholar. Through her films Mud Houses in Zaria and Kofar Mata Dye Pit, Zainab engages themes of identity, heritage, and reclamation, highlighting how indigenous knowledge systems – particularly those embedded in textiles and craft – can be preserved, interpreted and transformed in contemporary contexts. She also reflects on how cultural spaces are utilized and reimagined over time. The screening will be followed by an informal discussion where students will have the opportunity to engage with her creative process, research methods, and the role of visual media in documenting culture.

Seats are limited and food will be provided. Register here.
