Radical Planning – Guest Lecturer Morgan Fett February 3 AT 11:30 AM
Mon 3

Art & Architecture Building Auditorium, Room 2104

Morgan will be presenting her research on the case of Yasuní National Park in Ecuador and the decade-long movement to end oil drilling in a contested area of the park. She’ll highlight how holistic well-being and the rights of nature were leveraged by Indigenous and grassroots movements to end oil drilling in the park. Holistic well-being and the rights of nature can both be considered Indigenous technologies, and many of the policy and planning cases where they are used have frameworks based off of Indigenous cosmovisions. This research analyzes how such technologies are partially adopted and even co-opted by various actors and the implications that can have on land use and environmental justice in planning decisions.
