Please join us as we welcome shakara tyler, SEAS professor and Co-Executive Director of Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network! DBCFSN was established to ensure that Detroit’s African American population plays a significant role in the local food movement. Through their initiatives, they create sustainable, equitable food systems and advocate for policies that address the unique challenges faced by Black communities in Detroit and beyond. Through DBCFSN, shakara helps operate D-Town Farm, the largest of Detroit’s many gardens and farms. Detroit has a rich community garden culture and a robust urban farming community.
