Julie Steiff is a lecturer in urban planning and a writing instructor at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Her goal is to help students develop flexible styles and strategies to communicate concisely with multiple audiences. She is particularly interested in the role of the student-centered writing conference in the revision process, the challenges of team writing, and the development of the meticulous editing skills necessary to present a polished and professional final product. Before joining Taubman College in 2006, she taught writing at the undergraduate level and worked one-on-one with students from across the U-M campus in the writing clinic of the English Composition Board (now Sweetland Writing Center). She also has extensive experience as a freelance editor of books, dissertations, theses, and articles in urban planning, accounting, and other fields.

She holds a Ph.D. in English language and literature from the University of Michigan.
