The Wallenberg studio section run by Muschenheim Fellow Nataly Gattegno has successfully completed their studio trip to Athens, Greece with the generous support of Taubman College and the UM International Institute’s Experiential Learning Fund. They participated in the international conference Ecoweek and joined students from Greece and Europe in a design workshop focusing on the Ellinikon airport site, a disused U.S. military base and site of the old Athens airport. UM architecture students presented their design work to the conference and received feedback from local and international participants.
The conference included lectures by architects Shigeru Ban, Ivan Harbour (Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners), the director of the Institute for Urban Design in New York Olympia Kazi, landscape engineer Byron Stigge and environmental expert Benjamin Gill (BioRegional). The design workshops were led by Nataly Gattegno, Petros Babasikas (Drifting City), Anders Lonka (ADEPT Architects), Uffe Bay-Smidt (aart a/s), and Marina Topouzi.
