Taubman College Taubman College’s Professor of Practice in Urban and Regional Planning Christopher Leinberger will debate Joel Kotkin, the author of The Next 100 Million: America in 2050, July 7, 2010, at New York City’s Century Club. The event puts Leinberger, a proponent of walkable urbanism, and Kotkin, a proponent of sprawl, head to head. The free event is sponsored by the Forum for Urban Design, will be introduced by Dean of the Yale School of Design Alex Garvein, and will be moderated by Dr. Kenneth Jackson, a renowned urban historian from Columbia University. Leinberger specializes in real estate development and is working to make progressive development profitable. He is a visiting fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. and also advises city leaders and developers on how to create places in which homes, jobs, schools and stores are clustered rather than spread out.
